Cost-effectiveness of glaucoma care and glaucoma screening

Although direct evidence on the cost-effectiveness of glaucoma treatment is limited, hypotensive therapy remains a clinically justified approach due to its proven ability to slow disease progression and prevent vision loss. Treatment of all OHT patients does not appear to be cost-effective. However, treatment of selected OHT patients with risk factors such as advanced age and higher pressures may be cost-effective in preventing conversion to glaucoma. On the other hand, it is not cost-effective to treat low-risk OHT individuals.
